If you’ve been in a rut and neglecting your social media posting over the long winter, it’s time to re-assess your strategy, shake out the rugs, and get back to business.
Spring is a great time to “clean up” your social media sites and your overall online profile, to make sure it’s squeaky clean for prospects and customers – the visitors to your virtual home.
Here are a few quick tips to spruce things up:
Review your image. The first thing a prospect sees when they land on your social property is probably a profile photo and a big graphic cover photo. Are these photos consistent with your branding, and are they consistent across all platforms? Photo style and content, colors, logos, fonts and messaging must “match”, or you risk customers thinking they’re on a competing site.
Keep posts fresh. Review the types of content you’ve recently posted, and do a quick audit to ensure you’re switching up the types of content once in a while.
- Everything can’t be a sale or a promotion. Inform, educate and entertain in addition to selling.
- Are you using images or videos to generate greater engagement?
- Calls to Action are good – be sure to link directly to your website – specific pages on the site that match what the post is about, not just the home page.
- Do something consistent on a certain day of the week, e.g. #MotivationMonday or #ThrowbackThursday
Don’t stop engagin’. Be sure someone is monitoring your sites and engaging with customers. You don’t have to respond to every single post, but you need to respond to some of them so your business looks alive and awake. Some customers will come to Facebook to complain about service so be sure you’re not missing these posts – they do require a response. On Facebook, if someone engages with a post who isn’t a current follower, you’ll get a notification along with a suggestion to invite that person to Like the page. Easy way to get new followers!
